Mass in honor of St. Mary of the Cross Mackillop

St Luke’s Parish Lalor invites the whole community to gather in faith as we commemorate the Feast of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop, reflecting on her life, her witness to the Gospel, and her enduring legacy within the Church in Australia.

Born in Fitzroy in 1842, St Mary of the Cross MacKillop founded the Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart alongside Fr Julian Tenison Woods, dedicating her life to the service of God and the care of the poor. Beatified in 1995 and canonised in 2010, she became Australia’s first saint—an enduring sign of holiness rooted in trust, courage, and compassion.

Her unwavering commitment to providing education for the poor and vulnerable continues to shape the mission of Catholic schools across our nation. As we honour her feast day, may her example inspire us to live with deeper faith, greater charity, and steadfast hope in God’s providence.
